Show Notes

My guest is Tapoka Mkandawire, originally from Malawi, but has been living and studying in the UK since she was 18. In this episode, we learn that her key influence to STEM came from her parents, who are both medics; however, she did not take the same route. Currently, she's a student at Sanger Institute doing her PhD at Cambridge University, England, in the field of parasitology and molecular biology. Her research work is focused on the human gut mainly, interested in gut bacteria and whipworms. Lastly, Tapoka opens up and shares a very emotive, honest and, real story about dealing with the stress, failures and hard feelings that are far too common to a postgrad student. This is a story that she shared at, Story Collider, event that happened at Cambridge University in June 2019. The purpose of the event is to  give science students an opportunity to tell their stories about their life. It was amazing you have to give it a listen!
