My guest today is Silindokuhle (Silindo) Mavuso from South Africa. In this episode, we learn that Silindo has a vast musical background. However, he also has an aptitude for science and as a result, picked the latter to pursue further. He takes us through the journey of him getting into the field of geology and archeology. Currently, he is PhD candidate at the school of geoscience at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.  Focusing on identifying and explaining past environments that are associated with early human life and advancement through time in Kenya. He tells us more about this work and its importance. Further, we discuss his roles as the project manager of the National Geographic “Umsuka” Public Palaeoanthrology Project that aims to bring research conducted by the project to educate people about human evolution and the recent podcast "Digging In" that he co-founded. Lastly, we discuss how Silindo has navigated being in this field that is predominantly white and how it has affected the type of researcher that he is now. Tune in.
